Wim Van Hasselt

Wim Van Hasselt is a Belgian musician currently living in Switzerland. He has been invited as a soloist by the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Sophia Philharmonic and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, among others, and has performed in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Beethovenhalle Bonn, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Tokyo Opera City Hall.

For many years he was a member of the trumpet section of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. Previously, he held the same position with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and had orchestra internships at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Stuttgart State Opera. He has made guest appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

He was recently awarded the prestigious Edison Classic Award 2021 for ‘Imaginary Mirror’ (Channel Classic Records), the debut album of his duo ART’uur. Wim Van Hasselt’s recordings are a testament to his versatility and curiosity. He fearlessly bridges the gap between tradition and modernity in his repertoire, which includes commissioned works by renowned artists such as Wim Henderickx, Florian Magnus Maier, Daniel Wohl, Jacob TV, Nicole Lizée and Markus Stockhausen.

Wim Van Hasselt excels not only as a performer but also as a mentor. As a trumpet professor at the Freiburg University of Music, the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and a coach of the European Union Youth Orchestra, he passionately shares his musical knowledge and experience, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
