Hailed for her exceptional talent and virtuosity, Marie-Luise Neunecker is widely regarded as one of today’s leading and most distinguished horn players.
During her tenure as principal horn of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, she attracted attention as a prizewinner at several prestigious international competitions, including the German Music Competition in Bonn (1982), the ARD Competition in Munich (1983) and the Concert Artists’ Guild Competition in New York (1986).
Marie-Luise Neunecker is a frequent guest at the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Marlboro Music Festival, the Risör Festival and the Vienna Festwochen.
György Ligeti wrote his Hamburg Concerto for her, which she premiered in January 2001. She has recorded the concerto with the Asko Ensemble under Reinbert de Leeuw for the Ligeti Edition of Warner Classics.
In addition to her success as a soloist with ensembles such as the NDR, SWR, MDR and HR Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Bamberg Symphony, Marie-Luise Neunecker also appears regularly as a chamber musician. She has worked with such partners as Frank Peter Zimmermann, Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt, Antje Weithaas, Andreas Schiff, Martha Argerich and Pierre Laurent Aimard.
In 2013 Marie-Luise Neunecker was awarded the prestigious Frankfurt Music Prize. She is Professor of Horn at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin until 2020.
