Frits Damrow

Frits Damrow began his musical career as principal trumpet of the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra at the age of 21, while still completing his studies at the Maastricht Conservatory. After 9 years he was appointed principal trumpet of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, a position he held from 1991 to 2010. He also taught trumpet at the Conservatory of Amsterdam from 1993 to 2010.

As a chamber musician, Frits Damrow played in various groups such as the Amsterdam Bach Soloists, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, the Ebony Band, the Brass Quintet and the Brass Ensemble of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Since 2009 he has been Professor of Trumpet at the Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland.

He has given masterclasses at North Western University in Chicago, the San Francisco Conservatory, the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, the Universities of Freiburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Gnesin Academy in Moscow, the State Conservatory in Athens, Shobi University in Tokyo, the National University in Seoul and several universities in China.

As a soloist, Frits Damrow has performed with orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Sinfonietta Amsterdam, the Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra, the Italian Chamber Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Lithuania, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Transilvania in Romania, the Slovak Symfonietta and the Symphony Orchestra of Seoul.
